Prior to Idol, Sparks won various singing contests such as Coca-Cola’s Rising Star, the Gospel Music Association Academy’s Overall Spotlight Award, America’s Most Talented Kids, Colgate Country Showdown to name a few. She had also sung the national anthem at various professional sporting events, so she was a natural and experienced performer even before the show. She auditioned twice for the show before earning her gold ticket that would eventually lead to her being named the sixth member of the American Idol Winners List.

Jordin Sparks Idol Audition

Jordin auditioned for Season 6 of American Idol on two separate occasions. The first time in Los Angeles she failed to make it past the first round. She then auditioned a second time in Seattle, Washington and from there made it through to the Hollywood week. The show aired from January 16 to May 23, 2007. In this audition she sang the song “Because You Love me” by Celine Dion, she really impressed Randy and Paula, kind of impressed Simon, and she was through to Hollywood. Here is Jordin’s audition performance.

Jordin sang “Some Kind of Wonderful” by Soul Brother Six in the Hollywood round and advanced to the semi-finals where she performed “Give Me One Reason” by Tracy Chapman in the Top 24, “Reflection” by Christina Aguilera in the Top 20, and “Heartbreaker” by Pat Benatar in the Top 16 round which was good enough to advance to the top 12 as one of the American Idol Finalists.
